COURSE DESCRIPTION
The interplay between Self and Environment plays a crucial role in understanding key attachment theories. Through an Environmental Art Therapy directive, participants will explore how the environment helps define and shape the self and how awareness emerges from that exchange.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
1. Define three key concepts of Environmental art therapy used in clinical practice.
2. Participants will be able to name and implement two environmental art therapy directives that can be used in private practice and in clinical settings where minimal outdoor exposure is permitted.
3. Identify the intersections between Attachment Theory, Gestalt Theory and Environmental Art Therapy.

Dina Schapiro earned her Masters in Creative Arts Therapy from Pratt Institute. After working at Housing Works with homeless HIV/AIDS MICA population, Dina worked at the Renfrew Center working with eating disorders and addictions as well as starting her private practice. In 2003, Dina was invited to teach at the Pratt graduate art therapy program and at the New School Creative Arts Therapy Certificate Program. After 10 years of teaching and being the practicum coordinator at Pratt, Dina took on the position of Assistant Chair and Director of the Graduate Creative Art Therapy Department at the Pratt. Dina has taught and lectured aspects of Environmental Art Therapy in the department and in Creative Arts therapy conferences and has published work on the subject. In 2014 Dina and her partner started an artists residency program in VT called the Marble House Project, where the arts and the environment are in the forefront of their project.

Jean Davis, MPS, ATR-BC, LCAT is a licensed, registered and board-certified art therapist with twenty years of experience as a practitioner. She is an Associate Adjunct Professor in Pratt Institute's Graduate Creative Arts Therapy Department, is the Supervisor of the Creative Arts Therapy Department at the League School, is the former Chairperson of Pratt’s Creative Arts Therapy Department, former Director of the Transitional Living Community, a program of Brooklyn Community Services, and is the former Clinical Director of the Greenwich Village Youth Council. She has postgraduate training in the areas of group therapy, gestalt therapy and applied ecopsychology. She has published several articles on the subject of environmental art therapy and has a private practice in Brooklyn, New York.

A reminder about self-study and continuing education:
In New York State, a self-study course can only equal 1/3 of the required contact hours for your license renewal. So, if your license renews in three years, you will require 36 continuing education contact hours, thus a maximum of 12 of those hours can be self-study. The rest of your contact hours must be live events.
